help - editing the list of addresses 08.12.92
For every address you can edit:
⌠Name⌡
max. 15 characters long ≤name≥ for this address.
⌠Hardwareadr.⌡
the ethernet ≤hardwareaddress≥ in hexadecimal.
⌠Groupass.I⌡ to ⌠III⌡
the ≤groupassignments≥ for the group definitions I,
II and III.
For each group definition you can divide all known
addresses in up to 40 groups.
Three possibilities for the group definitions:
I - for segments in your network,
II - for the protocols used,
III - for the different machine types.
You have to define the names of the various groups
in the corresponding points in the main menu.
⌠group 0⌡ means: not defined, unknown group.
You can change the group assignments in two ways:
≤1.≥ input directly the corresponding number, or
≤2.≥ (if you don't know the number of this group)
simply press ⌠<Enter>⌡ (without changing the
the number before). You will get a window
with all group names defined for this group
group definition. Selection is done with the
cursorkeys and <Enter>.
⌠Max.Loadindex⌡
Maximum value for the ≤load index≥ for this address.
The load index describes the load which may be generated
by one station. Possible values are between 0 and 99.
The load index has a logarithmic scale, you find a table
in the Net-Control manual.
Calculation is performed by: li = 25 log ( pa \ pl )
li is the load index,
pa is the percentage of packets sent by this station
at all packets and
pl is the procentual netload.
The ≤Alarm≥ conditions for the load index are shown directly
behind that value.
⌠Max.missin.time⌡
The maximum time with no packets sent by this station
measured in intervalls.
⌠0⌡ means, that no checking is performed.
Warning: Changing the length of the Net-Control time
intervall changes the conditions for this alarm.
The ≤Alarm≥ conditions for the max. missing time are shown
directly behind that time value.
⌠Daily statistics⌡
You can configure Net-Control to store the numbers of
sent and received packets for an address per interval.
(Usually these values are only stored as one values per day).
The default setting is the value ≤0≥. This means, that
no daily statistics will be written.
If an other value (by 1 to 255) is given, so the counters
are stored in a special file, which has this value as
file extension. The correct filename is shown in the list.
You have also the possibility, to sum up the values of
several addresses, by giving these addresses here an equal
number. In this case the corresponding file contains for each
interval the sum of sent and received packets of all addresses
which have this value for the daily statistics.
⌠Infofile⌡
≤Additional addressinformation.≥
You can edit an up to 300 text lines long commentary for each
address. This small text is stored in a separate file in
the local subdirectory ADR-INFO.
The hardwareaddress determines the file name.
⌠Date⌡
Net-Control stores the date of the last change of an address
entry.
≤Global changing of the group assignments:≥
Through ⌠<F8>⌡ you can assign all addresses globally other
groups, without that this change must be accomplished for
each address individually.
≤Multicastsaddresses:≥
If you insert an address with the name ⌠Multicast⌡ into the
adresslist, all packets to multicastaddresses, which are not
in the addresslist, are summarized at this entry.
If no entry with the name ⌠Multicast⌡ exists in the list, all
unknown multicastaddresses are added to the list of the new
addresses.
